Mata.
Backend engineer building APIs, microservices, and automation workflows for production systems, owned end to end.
As the sole engineering owner of a high-revenue backend platform, I designed, shipped, and operated services end to end - APIs, queues, automation, and the AWS infrastructure they run on. Node.js, TypeScript, Postgres, and pragmatic system design. I care about correctness under load, observability, and code the next person can read without me in the room. Backend first, full-stack when a project needs one engineer doing all of it. Fully remote for 14+ years, async-first, comfortable on EU or US hours.

2022–2026 Staff backend engineer Government services platform, US (anonymized)
Sole engineering owner of a high-revenue backend platform. Designed, shipped, and operated Node.js services, automation workflows, queues, and the AWS infrastructure they run on, end to end.
- ·Sole engineering owner of the high-revenue backend platform - ran every system end to end across design, implementation, CI/CD, deploys, observability, and on-call.
- ·Designed and built a custom multi-gateway payment platform routing across major payment gateways, with product and upsell management, subscriptions, customer vaults, and multi-domain storefronts.
- ·Built the supporting payments infrastructure - inbound IPN handling, outbound webhooks, transaction reporting, and a unified REST API used by every internal product.
- ·Migrated the Node.js services to AWS ECS Fargate, defined the full infrastructure as code in Pulumi, and replaced manual deploys with GitHub Actions pipelines.
- ·Improved reliability across the platform with structured logging, dashboards, and alerts on CloudWatch; introduced background jobs and queues (SQS, BullMQ) to handle traffic spikes and process heavy work asynchronously.
- ·Delivered production integrations with payment, communication, and email providers using idempotent retries and explicit error handling so failures stayed contained.
2017–2022 Engineering lead Government services platform, US (anonymized)
Earlier phase on the same anonymized platform. Laravel and Node, 50+ repos, broader IC + lead remit across delivery, cloud infrastructure, CI/CD, and security.
- ·Led delivery and code review across 50+ repositories spanning Laravel, Vue, React, Node.js, and Docker.
- ·Built and operated cloud infrastructure across multiple providers (servers, domains, TLS) and edge security via Cloudflare.
- ·Set up CI/CD pipelines on Bitbucket Pipelines, automated support workflows, and integrated transactional email providers.
- ·Strengthened security with DDoS mitigation (Crowdsec) and ran a multi-database stack - MySQL, Redis, MongoDB, SQLite.
2014–2017 Founder and engineering lead International web agency, Venezuela (anonymized)
Founded a small agency delivering custom web applications end to end for international clients, mockups through production.
- ·Led end-to-end delivery of client projects worldwide - owned technical planning, architecture, and execution; matched solutions to client requirements.
- ·Built custom web applications with jQuery, WordPress, and pre-framework JavaScript. This is where I learned to ship.
- ·Coordinated international teams and clients across multiple time zones; refined remote dev workflows that I still use.
2011–2014 Web developer Independent / international freelance
Freelance web developer on Upwork (then oDesk) and Freelancer.com. Clients across Spain, Singapore, Germany, Brazil, the United States, and Australia.
- ·Designed and shipped websites to client specifications. The start of 14+ years of remote work.
Case studies
Custom high-revenue payment platform with multi-gateway integrations
Built the company's central payment platform from scratch - multi-gateway routing, subscriptions, customer vaults, multi-domain storefronts, queue-driven webhooks, full audit history, and a REST API every other internal product wrote into so all revenue lived in one place.
Multi-tenant claims platform with browser-driven automation
Built a multi-tenant claims platform with a config-driven rule engine, normalized ingestion across APIs, CSV, FTP, S3, email, and fax, plus Puppeteer automation for legacy carriers without APIs.
Production AWS platform on Fargate, queues, and Pulumi
Migrated a polyglot Node stack onto ECS Fargate with queue-driven workers and Pulumi-defined infrastructure. Deploys went from manual to routine, and worker reliability stopped being a guessing game.
Open to senior backend roles.
If your team needs someone who can own a backend codebase end to end (design, ship, run it on call), I would like to talk. Email is fastest.
